The CW orders SUPERGIRL spinoff SUPERMAN & LOIS straight to series
Back in October news broke that The CW was developing Superman & Lois, a spin-off of Supergirl starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the Man of Steel and the Daily Planet’s star reporter, respectively, to be set in the network’s Arrowverse line-up of DC Comics-inspired series. Today the network announced that they’ve foregone a pilot for Superman & Lois and instead placed a thirteen-episode order for the series. As reported by Deadline, the series is being written and executive produced by Flash alum Todd Helbing, and co-executive produced by Greg Berlanti.
Superman & Lois is set to follow the two title characters as they adjust to being working parents. The couple’s baby, a son named Jonathan, first appeared last month in the opening hour of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. The third hour of that event ended with the entirety of the positive matter universe being destroyed, including Clark, Lois, and Jon; while it’s inevitable that will be reversed during tonight’s conclusion to Crisis, what state the Kent family will be in when they return remains to be seen.
The news of Superman & Lois‘s pick-up comes a week after The CW announced the renewal of all the other remaining Arrowverse series—The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, and Legends of Tomorrow. A spin-off of Arrow, titled Green Arrow & The Canaries, has also been in development, with a backdoor pilot for the series airing next Tuesday, January 21st. That series would star Arrow actresses Katherine McNamara, Juliana Harkavy, and Katie Cassidy-Rodgers. It’s unknown at this time what impact the order of Superman & Lois to series will have on the chances for what would be a seventh Arrowverse TV series.
