Infinity Wars: Requiem’s True Identity Has Universe-Shattering Consequences
Earlier this month, Marvel Comics revealed the name (if not the identity) of its newest cosmic player, a masked entity known as Requiem. We also learned that she is most likely not playing on the side of the angels in the upcoming Infinity Wars event series, a suspicion that appears to have been confirmed by the release of the title’s second issue cover.
In the text accompanying the cover art, Marvel describes Gerry Duggan, Mike Deodato Jr. and Frank Martin’s series as “an Infinity Stone story that will change the Marvel Universe…and the lives of those who wield the cosmic stones!” The press release also promises the revelation of Requiem’s true identity will “shatter the universe.” (Note: We’ve run down a few of the likely suspects, here.)
The cover not only illustrates the level of danger Requiem poses to the Marvel Universe, it also fills us in on which Marvel characters will be in possession of the Infinity Stones in the wake of the current Infinity Countdown series.
Turk’s acquisition and use of the Mind Stone is chronicled in the just-released Infinity Countdown: Daredevil one-shot. The issue not only name drops Requiem for the first time, but indicates a connection to Doctor Strange, who appears to have become the wielder of the Time Stone by the time Infinity Wars kicks off.
Rounding out the Stones’ caretakers are Star-Lord, who just came into possession of the Power Stone, Captain Marvel, who recently recovered the Reality Stone, Adam Warlock who will soon control the Soul Stone once again, and Black Widow, who was bequeathed the Space Stone by the newly resurrected Wolverine.
The original Infinity War series from 1992 revolved around the Magus’ efforts to use the Infinity Gauntlet for his own evil machinations. Though Magus did appear in the run-up to the current Infinity Countdown storyline, he was quickly killed by the event’s true villain – the human/android hybrid Ultron Pym.
Below is the official synopsis for Infinity Wars: Prime #1, which arrives in July 2018.
In INFINITY WARS: PRIME #1, the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe reap what they sow as their frantic search for the Infinity Stones leads to cosmic madness like never before. The simmering events of recent months spiral into something much, much bigger in this colossal story.
