10 Lies We All Believed About Disney Princesses

The Disney princesses and their films have massive fan bases, but here's 10 theories about them that are in fact not true. As successful as Disney has become now thanks to Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the foundation of their success rests on the shoulders on some of their most iconic characters - the Disney princesses.

The studio found early success with them, going all the way back to 1937 when they first released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After making Snow White an even more recognizable character, they did the same with Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, but then took a break from the princesses. Then, in the span of a decade starting in 1989, Disney rattled off a string of hits based around Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan. Princesses still remain a major part of their programming now, with Frozen and Moana bringing some original and now fan favorite characters to life.

Each princess and their respective films are a favorite of someone, which has resulted in some in-depth theories about them. Screen Rant's latest video takes a look at 10 popular fan theories about these princesses that sound great initially, but have already been debunked. These theories range from Snow White using the Seven Dwarfs to represent the stages of drug addiction to Moana and Lilo having the same demi-god guardian, so check out the video above for all of them.

Many of these theories are the result of fans attempting to tie these separate worlds together to form one massive shared universe of Disney characters. While there's a connecting point between Frozen and Tangled thanks to Rapunzel appearing in Rivendell, it doesn't work for Anna and Elsa's parents to have died trying to journey to the wedding at the end of Tangled. Likewise, it's not accurate to believe the ship that the parents die in is the same one from The Little Mermaid. Even if they can't all exist in the same shared universe, at least Ralph Breaks the Internet gave us an incredible crossover.

While it certainly would be entertaining if some of these theories were true, at least they were only theories to begin with. But, even though these have been shot down, new theories about the Disney princesses and their individual films are created all the time. The good news though is that it'll soon be much easier to access all of these films so even more theories can be made. Disney's entire library of classic animated films will be available on their streaming service Disney+ when it launches this November. Since many of these movies have been locked away in the Disney vault for years, fans will soon be able to revisit them as often as they want to imagine more creative theories.
